第５５回ミロンガ【最終回】開催のご報告

　２０１１年９月２８日（水）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第５５回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。この日は雲ひとつない快晴とまではいきませんが、穏やかな秋晴れの中での開催となりました。最終回ということもあり、参加者の出足は好調で開始４０分ほどで参加者数は７０人を超え、その後も多くの皆さんにご来場いただけました。最終的な参加者数は男性５４人、女性５７人の計１１１人（男性比率４８・６％）。今年５月に開いた第４４回、第４５回の１０３人を超えて、参加者数は過去最多を記録しました。過去５５回の累計参加者は４３１６人、１回当たりの平均が７８・５人、男性比率は４９・１％となりました。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９３・０人と１００人に迫る勢いでした。

　最終回のテーマは「Quetzal de Tango～タンゴの永遠～」としました。Quetzal（ケツァール）は中米に生息する美しい鳥で、手塚治虫のアニメ「火の鳥」のモデルとも言われています。タンゴやミロンガが火の鳥（不死鳥）のように、栄枯盛衰はあっても、永遠に不滅であって欲しいという願いを込めました。テーマ名はグアテマラの美しい都市、Quetzaltenango（ケツァルテナンゴ）からインスピレーションを得ました。

　選曲はmilonguera tomokoさん、サニーさん、Shino BさんのレギュラーＤＪ３人が共演するコラボレーション企画でお届けしました。milonguera tomokoさんがワルツとミロンガのタンダを、サニーさんがロマンチック・タンゴのタンダを、Shino Bさんがヌエボを含むリズミカル・タンゴのタンダを、事前に合計で１０時間以上を用意し、サニーさんが当日のフロアの状況を判断しながらライブでタンダを選びました。

　事前にもらった３人からのメッセージです。「どこの国を訪れても、男と女がタンゴに思いを重ねながらアブラソする。フロアにはさまざまな思いが溢れる。そんな思いをお互いに大切にし合う空間が、いつまでもありますようにと願いながら選曲しました。Tokyo Milongaの最終回、思い出に残る一夜を過ごしましょう」（milonguera tomokoさん）。「誰もがニュートラルに気軽に楽しめるミロンガが、姿かたちを変えても羽ばたき続けるように。ダンスフロアでは、スタイルや経験などの違いを超えて、皆さんがお互いに安心して楽しめるように。抱えきれない感謝を込めてお送りします」（サニーさん）。「Quetzal de tangoのテーマのもと、飛び立つ不死鳥の鮮やかな羽の色、空に描く軌跡を思い描いての選曲です。皆さんの思い出に残る最後のTokyo Milongaにしたいと思います」（Shino Bさん）。３人の力を結集し、Tokyo Milongaの最終回を盛り上げました。

　前回、前々回と写真を撮り忘れたため、今回は気合いを入れて撮影しました。最終回ということで写真も多めにアップしています。

　２０１０年１月にスタートしたTokyo Milongaですが、当初の予想を大幅に上回る皆さんに支持して戴き、これまで続けることができました。惜しまれつつ終われることを幸せに感じています。改めてこれまで応援してくれた方々に御礼申し上げます。また、素晴らしい選曲を提供してくれたＤＪの皆さん、陰ながら運営を支えてくれたスタッフの皆さんがいてくれてこその成功だと感謝します。本当に有難うございました。

　参加する皆さんとともに創ったTokyo Milonga。その空気を最終回では特に強く感じることができ、会場全体で音楽が共鳴して美しく流れているように見えました。互いに共有することの大切さを、改めて教えてくれたミロンガでした。ここで生まれ落ちたものが成長し、そして飛翔し、羽ばたいて、新たに素晴らしい出会いがありますように。これからも皆さんのタンゴに幸せがありますように。

　踊るための音楽、楽しむための選曲ということに徹した３時間でした。来場者の皆さんの想い、スタッフの想い、ＤＪチームとしての想いが、一体となって会場を満たしていることを全身で感じました。あの想いこそが「Quetzal de Tango」として羽ばたき続けることを確信しています。心の底から有難うございました。

Report: 55th Tokyo Milonga

The 55th and final Tokyo Milonga took place on Friday, September 16 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. It was a calm, sunny autumn day. Many people arrived early on to enjoy our last milonga. We counted over 70 dancers at 19:10, and more people kept arriving! Attendance totaled 54 men and 57 women for a total of 111 dancers (48.6% men). Total attendance for the 55 milongas was 4,316, with an average of 78.5 per milonga (49.1% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 93.

Our theme for the evening was Quetzal de Tango: may tango live forever! The quetzal is a Latin American native bird with colorful plumage said to have inspired Osamu Tezuka’s animated series “Phoenix.” Like the indestructible phoenix, we hope that tango and milonga will live on forever, riding the peaks and troughs of life. Our theme also drew inspiration from Quetzaltenango, a beautiful city in Guatemala.

Our three regular DJs Sonny, milonguera tomoko, and Shino B collaborated for our final milonga. Sonny DJd live using over 10 hours of music provided by the three DJs. He provided the romantic tango tandas, milonguera tomoko the vals and milonga tandas, and Shino B the rhythmic tango and tango nuevo tandas. The three DJs joined forces to bring you some of the best tango music for the final Tokyo Milonga.

“Wherever you go to dance tango, men and women embrace with feeling, and many emotions come and go on the dance flow. I chose my tandas with the hope that there will always be a space where we can respect and value these emotions. Let’s all make the final Tokyo Milonga a night to remember!” said milonguera tomoko.

DJ Sonny’s words: “My wish is that there will always be milongas open to all where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves, even if their names and formats change. I will DJ on the night so that everyone can feel safe and enjoy dancing regardless of experience and dance style. I can’t thank everyone enough for helping to make Tokyo Milonga a success.” 

And from Shino B: “With the theme quetzal de tango in mind, I would like to deliver tangos that evoke the splash of color of a phoenix taking off and the elegant arc of its flight path. My wish is for the final Tokyo milonga to create happy memories for everyone.

We took some extra photos to make up for the absence of photos of the past two milongas. Tokyo Milonga started in January 2010. We were able to carry on for so long, because far more people than we expected became regulars. We feel honored that people are sad that Tokyo Milonga is closing. Thanks again to everyone for their support, to our DJs for doing such a good job with the music, and our staff for all the hard work behind the scenes.

For three hours I focused totally on great music for dancing that people could truly enjoy. There was a physical sensation that the feelings of the dances, staff, and DJ team came together at the venue. The spirit of quetzal de tango will continue to soar. My heartfelt thanks to everyone.

第５４回ミロンガ開催のご報告

　２０１１年９月１６日（金）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第５４回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。スタート時のお天気は曇りでしたが、ミロンガ終了後しばらくして雨が降り始めました。ミロンガの開始早々から多くの参加者が詰めかけ、午後７時頃には４０人を突破、その後も多数の皆さんにお越し戴けました。最終的な参加者数は男性４７人、女性５２人の計９９人（男性比率４７・５％）。過去５４回の累計参加者は４２０５人、１回当たりの平均が７７・９人、男性比率は４９・１％となっています。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９０・４人となっています。

　選曲はShino Bさんが担当しました。「Tokyo Milongaも残すところ２回。ソロで選曲を担当するのはこれが最後になります。ニュージーランドから来た私に、大勢の人たちが訪れるTokyo Milongaで選曲するチャンスを与えてくれた主催者をはじめ、仲間として暖かく迎えて下さったチームTokyo Milongaの皆さん、そして会場で声をかけて下さった皆さんに心よりお礼申し上げます。今回は花火の一瞬の輝きと残像をイメージし、皆さんの心の片隅に残る味わいのある選曲を目指します。いつも通り後半にタンゴヌエボを１タンダ入れる予定です。楽しんでいただければ嬉しいです」。参加者数が多かったにも関わらず、中盤にかけて大部分の人がフロアで踊っている様子は圧巻でした。また、前回に引き続き、今回も写真の撮影を失念してしまいました。申し訳ありません（参加された花輪ジローさんのブログに当日の会場風景が掲載されています）。次回の最終回こそ、しっかりと記念に残るよう、忘れずに撮影したいと思います。

　次回のTokyo Milongaは９月２８日（水）です。いよいよ最終回となります。選曲はmilonguera tomokoさん、サニーさん、Shino BさんのレギュラーＤＪ３人が共演するコラボレーション企画でお届けします。会場は中目黒ＧＴプラザホール。多くの皆さんのお越しをお待ちしております。

　厳しい残暑の中、多くの皆さんにお越しいただき有難うございました。時々２曲ほど踊りながら次のタンダを選ぶというきわどい作業でしたが、フロアの状況を肌で感じながらの選曲はスリル満点でした。最近ちょっとこだわっているカナロのヨーロッパ風ワルツは、馴染みのない方もおられたようですが、タンゴのルーツを考える、という意味での一つの提案でした。９月２８日の最後のTokyo MilongaもレギュラーＤＪの一員として選曲に参加します。皆さんと再びお会いできることを楽しみにしています。

Report: 54th Tokyo Milonga

The 54th Tokyo Milonga took place on Friday, September 16 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. The weather was cloudy when the milonga started and it rained shortly after 21:30. The hall filled up quickly after the doors opened. We counted over 40 dancers around 19:00, with a steady stream of people coming in thereafter. Attendance totaled 47 men and 52 women for a total of 99 dancers (47.5% men). Total attendance to date is 4,205, with an average of 77.9 per milonga (49.1% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 90.4.

Shino B was the DJ. Her message: “September 16 was my last solo gig at Tokyo Milonga. I would like to thank the Tokyo Milonga organizer for giving a Kiwi DJ the opportunity to work at such a big milonga. Also, a huge thank you to the Tokyo Milonga team for their friendship and support, and to everyone who came to say hello at the milongas. My goal for the 16th was to play quality music with a bright spark that leaves a lingering impression, like fireworks. As usual I included a tango nuevo tanda in the second half. I hope you all had fun!” 

Sorry we don’t have any photos from the 54th Tokyo Milonga. Almost everyone in the room was dancing about halfway through the evening―an awesome sight. We’ll be sure to take photos on the 28th as a record of our final milonga.

The final Tokyo Milonga will be held on Wednesday, September 28 at our usual venue Nakameguro GT Hall. Our three regular DJs milonguera tomoko, Sonny, and Shino B will collaborate to bring you some unforgettable tango music. We look forward to seeing you!

A big thank you to everyone who came to the 54th Tokyo Milonga on such a hot evening. I was cutting it fine somewhat, dancing two or three songs in some tandas and rushing back to choose the next tanda, but it was exciting as a DJ to feel the energy of the dance floor. Some people commented on the two European-style valses in the Canaro vals tanda, which was just one way of exploring the origins of tango music. I confess that Amor y Primavera is a recent personal favorite.

I’ll be taking part in the regular DJ collaboration project for the last Tokyo Milonga. I look forward to seeing you all on the night.

震災復興プチミロンガ開催のご報告

　２０１１年９月５日（月）午後６時３０分から午後９時まで「震災復興プチミロンガ」を仙台中央音楽センター（仙台市）で開きました。会場はＪＲ仙台駅から徒歩５分の便利な場所で、地下Ａスタジオ（８２平方㍍）を借りしました。参加者数は男性１０人、女性９人の計１９人。週始めの月曜日に加えて、１週間前の開催決定という悪条件の中、予想を上回る多くの皆さんにお越し戴けました。遠くは岩手から新幹線に乗り、参加してくれた友人もいました。集客に尽力してくれたＫさん、感謝しています。

 

　開催の目的は、東日本大震災から半年を迎えるあたり、震災復興を願い、東北の中心地・仙台でミロンガを開きました。タンゴを愛する仙台の有志とTokyo Milongaが中心となって主催し、タンゴ未経験の人でも気楽に参加してもらえるように入場料は無料としました。当日はタンゴを踊ったことがない中南米からの留学生も参加し、参加者による即席のレッスンの後、自由に踊る楽しさを体験してもらいました。

　選曲はTokyo Milongaが担当しました。多様な参加者を想定し、変則的なタンダ（tanda）形式とし、タンゴは同じ楽団の４曲で１タンダとするのは通常のTokyo Milongaと同じですが、ワルツとミロンガは各２曲ずつを組み合わせて１タンダとしました。４曲ごとに「コルティナ（cortina）」というタンゴ以外の音楽を３０秒ほど流しました。タンダやコルティナは仙台の方々には馴染みの薄い仕組みかも知れませんが、この機会にその良さを知ってもらえたらと思い、取り入れました。また、後半に１タンダだけヌエボ系の音楽３曲を流す予定でしたが、１曲を再生し、あまりにも誰も踊らなかったため、急きょ２曲を残し、通常のタンゴに戻しました。

　開催を無事に終え、「楽しかった」という声を数多く頂戴しました。また、「震災後はじめてダンスシューズを履いた」という参加者もいました。日常生活に溶け込んだミロンガの楽しさを、東北の皆さんに少しでも感じてもらえたら主催者としてそれに勝る喜びはありません。未曾有の震災を乗り越え、力強く復興が進むとともに、東北の地でタンゴを楽しむ人がより増えることを願ってやみません。東北の皆さん、本当に有難うございました。

Report: Mini-Milonga to support earthquake relief in Sendai

A mini-milonga in support of earthquake relief took place at the Sendai Chuo Ongaku Center (five minutes’ walk from JR Sendai station) in downtown Sendai from 18:30?21:00 on Monday, September 5. We hired basement studio A (82m2) for the event. Nineteen dancers attended (10 men and nine women) despite the event being organized at only a week’s notice on a Monday. One friend hopped on the Shinkansen and came all the way from Iwate. We would like to thank K for helping to publicize the event.

Sendai tango lovers and Tokyo Milonga organized the event in aid of earthquake relief six months after the devastating Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11. We did not charge an entry fee so that anyone with an interest in tango (including total beginners) could take part. Foreign students from Latin America with no experience of tango attended the milonga. After a quick lesson from other participants, the students enjoyed the improvised dancing that is tango.

Tokyo Milonga provided the music. Although we kept to the Tokyo Milonga tanda format of four tangos by the same artist, we combined two valses and two milongas to form a tanda of four songs. We played a 30-second cortina between tandas. We thought Sendai dancers may not be familiar with tandas, but thought this would be a good opportunity for them to experience the advantages of playing tandas. We were going to play a three-song tango nuevo tanda, but since nobody danced the first song, so we went back to playing traditional tango. 

We received plenty of positive feedback after the event. Some dancers admitted that they had put their dance shoes on for the first time since the earthquake. As one of the organizers, there is nothing better than hearing from the people of Tohoku that they enjoyed a milonga that was part of everyday life. We hope that the Tohoku region will overcome this unprecedented disaster and make strong progress toward recovery, and that the number of tango lovers increases. A big thank you to the Tohoku tango community.

第５３回ミロンガ開催のご報告

　２０１１年９月１日（木）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第５３回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。大型で強い台風１２号が北上し、悪天候が予想されましたが、幸い雨も降らず、一日を終えることができました。参加者数は男性３７人、女性３９人の計７６人（男性比率４８・７％）。過去５３回の累計参加者は４１０６人、１回当たりの平均が７７・５人、男性比率は４９・１％でした。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が８８・４人となっています。

　選曲はサニーさんが担当しました。「当たり前にあると思っていることの有難味――。アルゼンチンタンゴを楽しめる環境があること。踊る相手がいること。同じ”場”に集って踊る楽しみを大勢で共有すること。そんなあれこれに思いを馳せると、縁あってその日その時のミロンガに集まった方々が、皆さんそれぞれに楽しんで過ごせることを願ってやみません。そんな思いを抱きながら、心地よく踊れる曲をフレッシュな構成で組み立てます。ソロでTokyo MilongaのＤＪを担当するのは、今回が最後となります。垣根なく気軽に楽しめる日常のミロンガというものが、この後もさまざまな形で発展していくことを信じながら…。お互いが気持ちよく踊れるようなふるまいがもっともっと広がり深まることを願いながら…。Tokyo Milongaを楽しんでくださっている方々や、支えている方々への”ありがとう”という思いを込めてお送りします」。ＤＪブースに張り付き、フロアをじっと見つめる姿が印象的でした。

　今回は写真を撮り忘れてしまったため、写真なしでの開催レポートとなりました。申し訳ありません。次回のTokyo Milongaは９月１６日（金）です。いよいよ残り２回となりました。選曲はShino Bさんが担当します。会場は中目黒ＧＴプラザホール。多くの皆さんのお越しをお待ちしております。

　タンダの選択をすべてその場で行うのはドキドキもありますが、それ以上にワクワクのほうが上回りました。フロアに目を転じると、それぞれにいい感じで楽しんでいるペアの姿が多かったことが嬉しかったです。これがさらに発展して、フロア全体としての一体感が醸し出されることを願い、またそこに向かって選曲の面からも貢献していきたいという気持ちも強まりました。ライブ選曲の醍醐味をまだまだ追求したいという思いを抱きつつ、ソロでの担当は終ります。有難うございました。最終回のコラボではまた何らかの形で関わりますので、よろしくお願いします。

Report: 53rd Tokyo Milonga

The 53rd Tokyo Milonga took place on Thursday, September 1 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. Fortunately there was no rain despite warnings of the powerful Typhoon No. 12 heading in our direction. Attendance totaled 37 men and 39 women for a total of 76 dancers (48.7% men). Total attendance to date is 4,106, with an average of 77.5 per milonga (49.1% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 88.4.

Sonny was on duty in the DJ booth. His message: “I am grateful for the things we usually take for granted ? having the resources to enjoy Argentine tango, the existence of dance partners, being able to share with many people the joy of dancing in one place. Reflecting on these themes, my wish is that everyone who comes together at a milonga will enjoy it in their own way. With this in mind, I will DJ on the night by creating a list of danceable songs in a new way.

This is the last time I DJ solo at Tokyo Milonga. I’m confident that a culture of relaxed, barrier-free milongas that become part of our daily lives will continue to develop in Tokyo. I hope that all of us will cultivate respect and consideration for others so that the dance floor is pleasant for everyone. I will DJ on the 1st full of gratitude for everyone having a good time at Tokyo Milonga, and to all of you who have worked so hard to make it a success. Sonny’s dedication to his role left a lasting impression―stationed permanently at the DJ booth and keeping a close watch over the dance floor.

DJ-ing on the fly is always a bit nerve-racking, but the excitement overrode the nerves. I was happy to see so many couples dancing harmoniously on the floor. It strengthened my resolve to develop this further to create a sense of harmony throughout the venue and contributing to this through DJ-ing. This was my last solo gig at Tokyo Milonga, but I remain enthusiastic about refining my life DJ-ing skills. Thank you to everyone who attended. I’m looking forward to the final Tokyo Milonga when I will be collaborating with the other regular DJs. We hope you will join us.

第５２回ミロンガ開催のご報告

　２０１１年８月２５日（木）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第５２回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。お天気は曇り。相変わらずの暑さでしたが、会場内は比較的冷房が効いていたように感じました。参加者数は男性４７人、女性４３人の計９０人（男性比率５２・２％）。過去５２回の累計参加者は４０３０人、１回当たりの平均が７７・５人、男性比率は４９・１％でした。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９０・０人となっています。

　選曲はmilonguera tomokoさんが担当しました。「最近気になる言葉があります。アルゼンチンの新聞『Clarin』紙と、ブエノスアイレスで活躍中のLamさんのブログで「Lindo」という言葉に立て続けに出会いました。この言葉にはスペイン語で「美しく、素晴らしく」などの意味があります。それがどんな感覚なのかまだ分からないけれど、どうやら雰囲気のあるダンスを踊るカップルには「Lindo」な感覚が溢れているようです。確かにスペイン語圏では何だか雰囲気のあるものをみると「Que lindo!!!」なんて褒め言葉を贈っていますが、そこには素晴らしさだけでなく、温かさも溢れているように思えます。そんな感覚が溢れる空間になると良いなと思いを込めて、選曲を担当させていただきます」（milonguera tomokoさん）。今回もライブな選曲にこだわった内容でお届けしました。milonguera tomokoさんもほぼＤＪブースに腰を落ち着け、緩急自在な選曲で楽しませてくれました。

【milonguera tomokoさんによる選曲後記】

　ミロンガにお運びいただきました皆様、有難うございました。昨晩の中目黒もタンゴをこよなく愛する人たちのダンス、そして笑顔に溢れていたように感じました。

　事前に報告することを忘れてしまいましたが、昨晩のコルティーナはClub Gricel（ブエノスアイレス）の「Lunes de Tango」のものを使いました。長さも同様に１分２０秒・・・少し長く感じられた方もいたかもしれません。今回は選曲をしていく段階で、ブエノスアイレスのミロンゲーロたちが好きであろう曲をYouTubeの動画などを通して、改めて考えてみたり・・・。定番の楽団のものでも、定番の曲としてまだ定着していなさそう、それでいて曲の構成がとても心が躍るものもあり。そんなものも取り混ぜてみました。いかがでしたでしょうか？

　今回でTokyoMilongaにおけるソロとしてDJを担当するのは最後になります。お世話になりましたこの場に関わる方々皆さんにお礼申し上げます。今後も、その他の場所でもタンゴという素敵な音楽を分かち合うべく活動をしていきたいと思います。どうぞ宜しくお願い申し上げます。

Report: 52nd Tokyo Milonga

The 52nd Tokyo Milonga took place on Thursday, August 25 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. It was yet another hot day, but the air-conditioning seemed to be relatively effective. Attendance totaled 47 men and 43 women for a total of 90 dancers (52.2% men). Total attendance to date is 4,030, with an average of 77.5 per milonga (49.1% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 90.0.

The DJ was milonguera tomoko. Her message: “Recently I came across the word lindo in Clarin, an Argentine newspaper, and a blog by Lam, who is currently working in Buenos Aires. Lindo is a Spanish word that means “beautiful” or “wonderful.” I don’t quite have the feel for the word yet, but I believe a couple that dances tango with charm can be described as lindo. In Spanish-speaking countries, you hear peoples saying “Que lindo!” when they see something delightful, which seems to convey not only praise but a feeling of warmth as well. As the DJ, I would like the same warm feeling to fill the Tokyo Milonga venue on August 25.” We continued with our live DJ-ing policy, which meant milonguera tomoko was stationed permanently at the DJ booth, selecting tandas on the fly.

The next Tokyo Milonga will be held on Thursday, September 1 with DJ Sonny at our usual venue Nakameguro GT Hall. We look forward to seeing you!

Thank you to everyone who came to the 52nd Tokyo Milonga. As usual, the Nakameguro hall was full of the dancing and happy smiles of people who love tango so much.

I forgot to mention that the cortina I used is from Lunes de Tango at Club Gricel in Buenos Aires. It was the same length as used at the milonga there ? a little long perhaps at 1 minute 20 seconds. In preparing for the night I studied YouTube videos of songs favored by the milongueros of Buenos Aires. Some songs I played were by well-known orchestras, not popular enough to be called standards yet with something exciting about them. I’m interested to hear what you thought.

This was my final solo gig at Tokyo Milonga. Thank you to everyone who supported our milongas. I will continue to share the wonderful music that is tango on other occasions. I look forward to seeing you all again.

第５１回ミロンガ開催のご報告

　２０１１年８月１２日（金）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第５１回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。曇りがちの天気でしたが、暑さ真っ盛りの中での開催となりました。参加者数は男性４２人、女性４７人の計８９人（男性比率４７・２％）。過去５１回の累計参加者は３９４０人、１回当たりの平均が７７・３人、男性比率は４９・０％でした。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９１・２人となっています。

　選曲はShino Bさんが久しぶりに担当しました。「今回の選曲はリードをする男性（および少数の女性）に捧げます。イメージは大ベテランの黒人ジャズシンガー、アルバータ・ハンター (Alberta Hunter、コルティナに登場します） が８０代で録音した名曲『My Handy Man』にちなんで「使える男」です。タンゴって素敵ですね。すべての男性を、女性を楽しませ、ともに音楽と二度とないひと時を共有する「使える男」に変身させてしまいます。そのためには音楽を味わい、パートナーとしっかり向き合い、フロアの流れを乱さずに、全体に溶け込むようなリードを心掛けたいですね。いつもと同様に後半にタンゴ・ヌエボを１タンダ入れる予定です。ヌエボを踊りたい方も是非来て下さい」（Shino Bさん）。

　すでに夏期休暇に入っておられる方も少なくないようで、毎回のように参加されている方が休まれたり、逆に普段は来られない方がお越し戴いたりと、参加者の顔ぶれがいつもと異なっているように感じました。また、今回からライブな選曲にこだわったＤＪ体制に移行しました。従来はミロンガ前に３時間分の楽曲をすべて用意し、そのまま流すこともありましたが、今後はライブな選曲にこだわることで、さらに楽しいミロンガを目指す試みです。Shino Bさんにとって初のライブな選曲ということで緊張感もあったようですが、無事に３時間を締めくくってくれました。残り４回もこだわりの選曲をお届けします。

　次回のTokyo Milongaは８月２５日（木）です。選曲はmilonguera tomokoさんが担当します。会場は中目黒ＧＴプラザホール。多くの皆さんのお越しをお待ちしております。

　猛暑の中ちょっとけだるい雰囲気で始まった、夏期休暇中のTokyo Milonga。少しでも涼しさを感じられるように、北極・南極を舞台とするビデオ２本を上映しました。童心に帰ってHappy Feetを楽しまれた方もいらしたようです。最初から最後までのライブ選曲は不慣れなため、やや中途半端に終わってしまった感がありますが、「良かった」というコメントも戴きました。有難うございます。会場のスピーカーの音量が低めに設定されており、音楽がよく聞こえない時もあり、迷惑をおかけしました。これからもライブ選曲の経験を積み、常に最適の選曲をお届けできるように精進しますので、次回もよろしくお願いします。

Report: 51st Tokyo Milonga

The 51st Tokyo Milonga took place on Friday, August 12 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. It was cloudy, but a very hot day. Attendance totaled 42 men and 47 women for a total of 89 dancers (47.2% men). Total attendance to date is 3,940, with an average of 77.3 per milonga (49.0% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 91.2.

DJ Shino B was back for the 51st Tokyo Milonga. Her theme was “My Handy Man” taken from the song by jazz singer Alberta Hunter. Her message: “Tango is amazing, because it turns every guy into “my handy man” who can give ladies a good time and share the music and a magic “never again” moment with them. As usual I plan to include a tango nuevo tanda in the second half.”

It was interesting to note the absence of some regulars and some new people attending because of the summer vacation. We also switched fully to a live DJ-ing policy. Shino B was perhaps a little nervous about doing this for the first time, but she managed to keep the show on the road for three hours without a hitch. Please look forward to four more milongas with live DJ-ing.

The 51st Tokyo Milonga was held on a hot, sultry day during the summer vacation. We screened two videos set in the North and South Pole so that people might feel a bit cooler. I noticed some people watching Happy Feet with childlike enjoyment! I felt a bit constrained in my first attempt at live DJ-ing from beginning to end, but received some positive feedback from dancers, which is always nice. We apologize for the music not being loud enough at times because of the volume setting at the venue. I want to learn from this and future experiences of live DJ-ing so that I can always select the best music for each stage of a milonga. Thanks to everyone who attended, and look forward to seeing you again soon!

第５０回ミロンガ開催のご報告

　２０１１年７月２８日（木）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第５０回目の節目となるTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。お陰様で１年７カ月かけて５０回を無事に突破することができました。いつも応援して戴き、有難うございます。雨のぱらつく悪天候で、出足は人数が少なめでしたが、少しずつ参加者が増え、最終的には男性５２人、女性４６人の計９８人（男性比率５３・１％）でした。過去５０回の累計参加者は３８５１人、１回当たりの平均が７７・０人、男性比率は４９・１％。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９１・６人となっています。

　選曲は前回（２０１１年５月）の選曲も好評だった「ニューヨーク・ナイト」の第２弾（完結編）としてお届けしました。ニューヨークでもっとも人気の高いミロンガ「milonga RoKo（ミロンガ・ロコ）」の主催者であり、ＤＪも務めるKo氏が、Tokyo Milongaのために選曲してくれたＣＤを使い、東京の皆さんにも”milonga RoKo”を体験して戴きました。

　８時前にはいちど飲み物がなくなってしまいご迷惑をおかけしました。８時過ぎには熱中症対策としてアイスもテーブルに並べました。また、前々回、前回と連続して会場風景を撮り忘れてしまいましたため、今回は久し振りの写真付き開催レポートになりました。

　次回のTokyo Milongaは８月１２日（金）です。選曲はShino Bさんが担当します。会場は中目黒ＧＴプラザホール。８月から選曲の仕組みを見直し、体制を一新する予定です。詳細については近日中に当サイトで発表します。多くの皆さんのお越しをお待ちしております。

ニューヨーク在住。毎週日曜日にニューヨークで「milonga RoKo」を、ロビン・トーマス氏と共同で主催し、そのＤＪも務める。milonga RoKoは毎週開催しているミロンガでは北米最大のスケールを誇る。環境問題に対する関心も強く、東日本大震災の復興支援にも積極的に取り組んでいる。

Report: 50th Tokyo Milonga

The 50th Tokyo Milonga took place on Thursday, July 28 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. We marked our milestone 50th milonga a year and seven months after our first one. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support.
It was a wet day, but the hall filled up gradually after a slow start. Attendance totaled 52 men and 46 women for a total of 98 dancers (53.1% men). Total attendance to date is 3,851, with an average of 77.0 per milonga (49.0% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 91.6.

The 50th Tokyo Milonga was part 2 of 2 of New York Night. We held part 1 in May, which proved a bit success. The playlist was provided by DJ Ko, who is one of the organizers of milonga RoKo, the most popular milonga in New York. With his playlists on CD, we were able to give you a taste of milonga RoKo in Tokyo.

We apologize for running out of soft drinks shortly before 8pm. After replenishing the drink supply, we served popsicles after 8pm to help cool people down. We did remember to take photos this time!

The next Tokyo Milonga is on Friday, August 12 with DJ Shino B at our usual venue Nakameguro GT Hall. From August we have revamped our DJ-ing policy and structure, which we will announce shortly on this website. We look forward to seeing you on the 12th.

　２０１１年７月１４日（木）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第４９回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。この日は夏らしい快晴に恵まれ、暑い一日になりました。出足は人数が少なめで、男性の比率が高めでしたが、１９時過ぎから徐々に人が増え始め、男女比も改善しました。最終的に来場者数は男性４７人、女性４２人の計８９人（男性比率５２・８％）でした。過去４９回の累計参加者は３７５３人、１回当たりの平均が７６・６人、男性比率は４９・０％。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９２・６人となっています。

　選曲はShueiさんが『Tokyo Milongaの選曲』をテーマに担当しました。「自分なりに考えるTokyo Milongaらしい選曲というのをやってみたいと思います。古すぎず、新しすぎず、畏まらず、これからもアウェイ感のないミロンガであって欲しい、という願いをこめて」（Shueiさん）。

　節電のためにあいかわらず施設の冷房は強くはなりませんでしたが、６月に比べてかなり改善されたように感じます。８時過ぎには恒例のアイスを出し、ひと時の涼を取って戴きました。また、前回に引き続き、ミロンガ中の撮影を忘れてしまい、写真の無い開催レポートになってしまいましたことをお詫び申し上げます。

　次回のTokyo Milongaは７月２８日（木）です。記念すべき５０回目は、前回好評だった「ニューヨーク・ナイト」の第２弾（完結編）をお届けします。会場は中目黒ＧＴプラザホール。多くの皆さんのお越しをお待ちしております。

【Shueiさんによる選曲後記】

　今回の選曲は４０年代までの軽奏からオルケスタを中心に、基本リズムのはっきりした曲を多めに、できるだけフロアの状態を見ながらタンダをライブで組み替えました。基本的な流れは楽しんで戴けたのではと思います。途中リクエストが入ったり、残り時間の都合で、想定した展開を躊躇してしまったところもありますが、これからも個人的に鍛錬を積んでいきたいところです。Tokyo Milongaは東京でもっとも議論の進んだミロンガの一つだと思います。他には無いほどさまざまな楽しみ方をされる方々が集まってくる場所だと思います。本当にアウェイ感の無いミロンガまでには、フロア作りや選曲面、まだ色々越えるべき壁があるとは思いますが、これからも皆さんが楽しめるミロンガとして、Tokyo Milongaらしい考え方や感性が溢れていくことを期待しています。

Report: 49th Tokyo Milonga

The 49th Tokyo Milonga took place on Thursday, July 14 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. It was a hot, sunny summer day. The hall took a while to fill up, with more men earlier in the evening, but numbers gradually increased after 7pm and the gender balance evened out. Attendance totaled 47 men and 42 women for a total of 89 dancers (52.8% men). Total attendance to date is 3,753, with an average of 76.6 per milonga (49.0% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 92.6.

DJ Shuei’s theme for the night was Tokyo Milonga Playlist: “It was my idea of a typical Tokyo Milonga playlist. Nothing too old, too new, or too formal. I want Tokyo Milonga to continue being home, not away, for all of us.”

We served popsicles after 8pm to help cool people down. We apologize for not being able to lower the air-conditioner temperature due to the power saving initiative, although the air-conditioning seems to be more effective than in June. We also apologize for the absence of photos in this report, because we forgot to take them (again!).

I arranged the tandas on the fly as I watched the dance floor, mainly focusing on songs by ensembles and orquestas up to the 1940s with a clear basic rhythm. I hope you all enjoyed the basic flow of the music selection. There were times when the playlist didn’t proceed quite as I expected because of requests and having to fit the songs into a limited timeframe. This is a skill I plan to perfect as a DJ going forward. Tokyo Milonga is one of the most progressive in Tokyo in terms of freedom of debate about tango and its values. It’s a milonga that attracts and embraces diversity in the way people enjoy tango. While there are many challenges remaining to produce a milonga that welcomes everyone―we can do more with floor plans, playlists, and other aspects―I expect Tokyo Milonga to continue to evolve in its philosophy and artistic qualities so that it can be enjoyed by everyone.

　２０１１年７月１日（金）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第４８回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。天気は曇り。今にも雨が降り出しそうな空模様でしたが、なんとか最後までもちました。来場者数は男性４４人、女性４０人の計８４人（男性比率５２・４％）でした。過去４８回の累計参加者は３６６４人、１回当たりの平均が７６・３人、男性比率は４８・９％。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９５・４人となっています。

　選曲はサニーさんが『クール・ランニング』をテーマに担当しました。「リズミカルでテンポ早め、ノリノリ・アゲアゲな曲で疾走します。この季節だからこそ、リズムを乗りこなす！心根は熱く、踊りはクールに。フロアマナーも涼やかに」（サニーさん）。ＤＪブースに腰を落ち着け、会場のエネルギーを感じながらライブな選曲でお届けしました。

　今回は７月生まれの皆さんのお誕生日をお祝いし、ケーキとシャンパンを用意しました。お誕生日おめでとうございます。合わせて熱中症対策としてアイスを５０本ほど用意しました。引き続き、節電のために施設の冷房が強くならず、皆さんに暑い思いをさせておりますが、前回に比べて冷房の効きが改善、「それほど暑さを感じなかった」との声も何人かから戴きました。また、今回はミロンガ中の撮影を忘れてしまい、写真の無い開催レポートになってしまいましたことをお詫び申し上げます。

【サニーさんによる選曲後記】

　本日は、予告通りに「ノリノリ・アゲアゲ」な曲をぎっしりと集め、曲間も詰めてお送りしました。それでも、通常と比べてフロアが特に乱れることもなく、十人十色の音の取り方で楽しまれている様子に見入っていました。また、これまでは、入念に練り上げた選曲をそのまま流すかたちでしたが、はやる気持ちを抑えた今夜は、ＤＪブースにほぼ張り付き状態。踊れない残念さは少々あるものの、それをはるかに上回るプラスがありました。タンダもコルティナも常に複数の選択肢を用意し、フロア全体の様子に応じて次を決めていくのは、スリリングかつＤＪ冥利につきます。もうひとつ、大きな励みになったのは、ＤＪブースの前を通る時に、多くの方が声をかけてくれることでした。ミロンガの音楽は、とにかく楽しく気持ちよく踊れるように心がけています。それをしっかりと感じ、声をかけて戴けたことは望外の喜びです！これからも、ミロンガという時空を共有して楽しめるような選曲を、ますますパワーアップしていきたいと思います。どうぞよろしくお願いします。

Report: 48th Tokyo Milonga

The 48th Tokyo Milonga took place on Friday, July 1 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. It was a cloudy day that looked like it would start to rain any minute, but it stayed dry until the end of the milonga. We counted 44 men and 40 women for a total of 84 dancers (52.4% men). Total attendance to date is 3,664, with an average of 76.3 per milonga (48.9% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 95.4.

DJ Sonny’s theme for the night was Cool Running: “We’ll blast through the night with up-tempo, rhythmical, upbeat, danceable songs. It’s great to ride strong rhythms when the weather is so humid and we tend to feel low on energy. Our dancing can be cool, though our hearts are warm. Floorcraft should be cool, calm, and controlled.” He stayed in the DJ booth and selected tandas on the fly in response to the energy of the dance floor.

We celebrated July birthdays with cake and bubbly and served 50 popsicles to help cool people down. As previously announced I played a series of upbeat, rhythmical songs with short intervals between them. I observed that despite the music, traffic on the floor was as controlled as usual and dancers appeared to be interpreting the music in individual ways. In the past I played a carefully prepared playlist without making any changes, but on July 1 I kept my enthusiasm under control and remained on duty at the DJ booth.　Although it was disappointing not being able to dance, the gains far outweighed the losses. I prepared a range of cortinas and found it both exciting and gratifying as a DJ to be able to choose the one that best matched the moment according to what was happening on the dance floor. I was also pleased that so many dancers wanted to have a word as they passed the DJ booth. As a DJ, I always try to provide music that is great to dance to. It was both unexpected and rewarding that so many people understood that and expressed it. I will hone my skills as a DJ so I can deliver even better music that allows dancers to share and enjoy the time and space that we call a milonga. Thank you!

「プロカメラマンによる撮影サービス」（６月１６日分）の公開をスタート

　大変遅くなりましたが、６月１６日に開いたTokyo Milongaに初導入した「プロカメラマンによる撮影サービス」の参加者向け公開を始めました。撮影した写真のうち、厳選した８３枚を公開しています。当初はミロンガ終了後２４時間以内をめどに公開する予定でしたが、枚数の多さとともに作業が予想以上に手間がかかることが判明、写真の公開が大幅に遅れ、ご迷惑をおかけしました。

　閲覧方法は、パソコンや携帯電話から指定のＵＲＬ【 30days Album 】を開き、当日に会場で配ったパスワード（合い言葉）を入力することですべての写真をご覧戴けます。今回の目的は、当日に参加されなかった人たちにミロンガを知ってもらうことではなく、参加してくれた皆さんに対するサービスの充実にあります。一般の人など非参加者は見られないようにセキュリティーに配慮しています。そのため、会場でパスワードの紙をもらい損ねた方も含め、パスワードの再発行は一切行いません。また、写真著作権はTokyo Milongaに属し、無断転載を禁じます。どうぞ宜しくお願いします。

The photos taken on June 16 by a professional photographer are available to view by everyone who attended the milonga. We selected 83 of the best images from the many photos taken. We apologize for the delay in in putting the photos online. Uploading took far longer and was more complicated than we anticipated.

You can view the photos with a PC or mobile phone. Go to the 30days Album website and enter the password that we provided at the milonga. The photos are not for publicity, but provided as an extra service to the people who attended. We have taken security precautions so that the photos cannot be viewed by anyone. We only give out the password at the milonga and do not reissue it afterwards, even to those who did attend, but forgot to pick up the piece of paper with the password on it. Tokyo Milonga holds the copyright to all photos and unauthorized use is strictly prohibited. Thank you for your cooperation.
