Tokyo Milonga

再開の要望に対する返答

　Tokyo Milongaが２０１１年９月末に幕を閉じ、３カ月が過ぎました。この間、参加してくれた方々から再開の要望を数多く戴きました。また、最近では複数のスタジオ関係者から「Tokyo Milongaを一緒に復活させませんか」という有難いお話も頂戴しております。Tokyo Milongaの存在が今も忘れられていないこと、そして多くのミロンガがある現状にもかかわらず、再開を求める声があることはとても幸せなことです。

　約２年間の活動を振り返ると、「ミロンガはこうあってほしい」という自分なりの理想があり、どうしたらそこに近づけるかという挑戦の日々だったように思います。その原動力は現状に対する不満であり、それを少しでも変えたいという情熱でした。決して現状に満足したわけではありませんが、その思いが燃え尽きたことからTokyo Milongaの幕引きを決めました。

　再開を望む声があることは嬉しい限りですが、この情熱なくして復活しても、惰性での継続は尻すぼみになるだけです。そして何よりも、これまで期待してくれた人たち、応援してくれた人たちを裏切ることにほかなりません。

　以上のような理由から現時点では再開の目途はまったく立っておりません。そのうち再開するかもしれませんし、ずっとしないかもしれません。また、まったく別の活動を始める可能性もあるでしょう。寄せられた期待に添えないことは心苦しいことではありますが、今しばらく温かく見守って戴けましたら幸いです。今後ともどうぞ宜しくお願いします。

（追伸）これからタンゴやミロンガについての個人的な思いを、少し辛口に、同時に愛情たっぷりにここに書き記していけたらと思っております。当ブログを時々覗きに来てもらえたら嬉しいです。また、出身地である関西のタンゴ界活性化に微力ながらお手伝いできたら、とも考えています。

パリ・Sacre Milongaの奈知哲氏、シンルンボでライブＤＪ第２弾が決定！【満員御礼】

【下記のイベントは無事に終了しました。年始のお忙しい時期にも関わらず、本当に多くの皆さんにお越し戴き、誠に有難うございました。参加者数は１週間前（２０１１年１２月２８日）の初弾（９３人）を上回る９７人を記録、会場は終始、熱気に包まれました。来場者の内訳は男性４２人、女性５５人の計９７人（男性比率は４３・３％）。シンルンボさんにとって、イベントの来場者数で過去最高を連続で更新したそうです。お陰様で２０１２年も素晴らしいスタートを切ることができました。皆さんにとって幸多き１年になりますように！】

　１２月２８日はパリ「Sacre Milonga」の奈知 哲（なち・あきら）氏によるライブＤＪミロンガにご参加戴き、有難うございました。お陰様で１００人近い皆さんと一緒に、彼の素晴しい選曲を楽しむことができました。多くの皆さんのリクエストにお応えし、急きょ第２弾の開催が決まりましたのでお伝えします。開催日は年明け早々の１月４日。前回と同様に６時間にわたるロング・バーションで、素敵な選曲と暖かみのあるバーの雰囲気を満喫して下さい。

　奈知　哲氏が主催兼ＤＪを務めるパリのSacre Milongaは、フランスのミロンガ評価でも、音楽で４つ星半の最高評価を受けるなど、ミロンガ激戦区のパリでも屈指の人気を誇るミロンガです。開催は四谷のアルゼンチン　バー　シンルンボが主催し、Tokyo Milongaは企画・広報で協力します。今回はお正月にちなんで、ワンドリンクサービスとは別に先着順でお神酒を無料サービス（なくなり次第終了）。さらにシンルンボで水曜と土曜に開催中の「TangoNight」で次回以降に使える「５００円お年玉券」（有効期限１月末）をもれなくプレゼントします。また、お正月気分を盛り上げる着物での参加も大歓迎です。多くの皆さんのご参加をお待ちしております。

第５５回ミロンガ【最終回】開催のご報告

　２０１１年９月２８日（水）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第５５回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。この日は雲ひとつない快晴とまではいきませんが、穏やかな秋晴れの中での開催となりました。最終回ということもあり、参加者の出足は好調で開始４０分ほどで参加者数は７０人を超え、その後も多くの皆さんにご来場いただけました。最終的な参加者数は男性５４人、女性５７人の計１１１人（男性比率４８・６％）。今年５月に開いた第４４回、第４５回の１０３人を超えて、参加者数は過去最多を記録しました。過去５５回の累計参加者は４３１６人、１回当たりの平均が７８・５人、男性比率は４９・１％となりました。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９３・０人と１００人に迫る勢いでした。

　最終回のテーマは「Quetzal de Tango～タンゴの永遠～」としました。Quetzal（ケツァール）は中米に生息する美しい鳥で、手塚治虫のアニメ「火の鳥」のモデルとも言われています。タンゴやミロンガが火の鳥（不死鳥）のように、栄枯盛衰はあっても、永遠に不滅であって欲しいという願いを込めました。テーマ名はグアテマラの美しい都市、Quetzaltenango（ケツァルテナンゴ）からインスピレーションを得ました。

　選曲はmilonguera tomokoさん、サニーさん、Shino BさんのレギュラーＤＪ３人が共演するコラボレーション企画でお届けしました。milonguera tomokoさんがワルツとミロンガのタンダを、サニーさんがロマンチック・タンゴのタンダを、Shino Bさんがヌエボを含むリズミカル・タンゴのタンダを、事前に合計で１０時間以上を用意し、サニーさんが当日のフロアの状況を判断しながらライブでタンダを選びました。

　事前にもらった３人からのメッセージです。「どこの国を訪れても、男と女がタンゴに思いを重ねながらアブラソする。フロアにはさまざまな思いが溢れる。そんな思いをお互いに大切にし合う空間が、いつまでもありますようにと願いながら選曲しました。Tokyo Milongaの最終回、思い出に残る一夜を過ごしましょう」（milonguera tomokoさん）。「誰もがニュートラルに気軽に楽しめるミロンガが、姿かたちを変えても羽ばたき続けるように。ダンスフロアでは、スタイルや経験などの違いを超えて、皆さんがお互いに安心して楽しめるように。抱えきれない感謝を込めてお送りします」（サニーさん）。「Quetzal de tangoのテーマのもと、飛び立つ不死鳥の鮮やかな羽の色、空に描く軌跡を思い描いての選曲です。皆さんの思い出に残る最後のTokyo Milongaにしたいと思います」（Shino Bさん）。３人の力を結集し、Tokyo Milongaの最終回を盛り上げました。

　前回、前々回と写真を撮り忘れたため、今回は気合いを入れて撮影しました。最終回ということで写真も多めにアップしています。

　２０１０年１月にスタートしたTokyo Milongaですが、当初の予想を大幅に上回る皆さんに支持して戴き、これまで続けることができました。惜しまれつつ終われることを幸せに感じています。改めてこれまで応援してくれた方々に御礼申し上げます。また、素晴らしい選曲を提供してくれたＤＪの皆さん、陰ながら運営を支えてくれたスタッフの皆さんがいてくれてこその成功だと感謝します。本当に有難うございました。

　参加する皆さんとともに創ったTokyo Milonga。その空気を最終回では特に強く感じることができ、会場全体で音楽が共鳴して美しく流れているように見えました。互いに共有することの大切さを、改めて教えてくれたミロンガでした。ここで生まれ落ちたものが成長し、そして飛翔し、羽ばたいて、新たに素晴らしい出会いがありますように。これからも皆さんのタンゴに幸せがありますように。

　踊るための音楽、楽しむための選曲ということに徹した３時間でした。来場者の皆さんの想い、スタッフの想い、ＤＪチームとしての想いが、一体となって会場を満たしていることを全身で感じました。あの想いこそが「Quetzal de Tango」として羽ばたき続けることを確信しています。心の底から有難うございました。

Report: 55th Tokyo Milonga

The 55th and final Tokyo Milonga took place on Friday, September 16 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. It was a calm, sunny autumn day. Many people arrived early on to enjoy our last milonga. We counted over 70 dancers at 19:10, and more people kept arriving! Attendance totaled 54 men and 57 women for a total of 111 dancers (48.6% men). Total attendance for the 55 milongas was 4,316, with an average of 78.5 per milonga (49.1% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 93.

Our theme for the evening was Quetzal de Tango: may tango live forever! The quetzal is a Latin American native bird with colorful plumage said to have inspired Osamu Tezuka’s animated series “Phoenix.” Like the indestructible phoenix, we hope that tango and milonga will live on forever, riding the peaks and troughs of life. Our theme also drew inspiration from Quetzaltenango, a beautiful city in Guatemala.

Our three regular DJs Sonny, milonguera tomoko, and Shino B collaborated for our final milonga. Sonny DJd live using over 10 hours of music provided by the three DJs. He provided the romantic tango tandas, milonguera tomoko the vals and milonga tandas, and Shino B the rhythmic tango and tango nuevo tandas. The three DJs joined forces to bring you some of the best tango music for the final Tokyo Milonga.

“Wherever you go to dance tango, men and women embrace with feeling, and many emotions come and go on the dance flow. I chose my tandas with the hope that there will always be a space where we can respect and value these emotions. Let’s all make the final Tokyo Milonga a night to remember!” said milonguera tomoko.

DJ Sonny’s words: “My wish is that there will always be milongas open to all where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves, even if their names and formats change. I will DJ on the night so that everyone can feel safe and enjoy dancing regardless of experience and dance style. I can’t thank everyone enough for helping to make Tokyo Milonga a success.” 

And from Shino B: “With the theme quetzal de tango in mind, I would like to deliver tangos that evoke the splash of color of a phoenix taking off and the elegant arc of its flight path. My wish is for the final Tokyo milonga to create happy memories for everyone.

We took some extra photos to make up for the absence of photos of the past two milongas. Tokyo Milonga started in January 2010. We were able to carry on for so long, because far more people than we expected became regulars. We feel honored that people are sad that Tokyo Milonga is closing. Thanks again to everyone for their support, to our DJs for doing such a good job with the music, and our staff for all the hard work behind the scenes.

For three hours I focused totally on great music for dancing that people could truly enjoy. There was a physical sensation that the feelings of the dances, staff, and DJ team came together at the venue. The spirit of quetzal de tango will continue to soar. My heartfelt thanks to everyone.

第５４回ミロンガ開催のご報告

　２０１１年９月１６日（金）午後６時３０分から午後９時３０分まで、第５４回目のTokyo Milongaを中目黒ＧＴプラザホール（目黒区）で開きました。スタート時のお天気は曇りでしたが、ミロンガ終了後しばらくして雨が降り始めました。ミロンガの開始早々から多くの参加者が詰めかけ、午後７時頃には４０人を突破、その後も多数の皆さんにお越し戴けました。最終的な参加者数は男性４７人、女性５２人の計９９人（男性比率４７・５％）。過去５４回の累計参加者は４２０５人、１回当たりの平均が７７・９人、男性比率は４９・１％となっています。直近５回の参加者数は１回当たりの平均が９０・４人となっています。

　選曲はShino Bさんが担当しました。「Tokyo Milongaも残すところ２回。ソロで選曲を担当するのはこれが最後になります。ニュージーランドから来た私に、大勢の人たちが訪れるTokyo Milongaで選曲するチャンスを与えてくれた主催者をはじめ、仲間として暖かく迎えて下さったチームTokyo Milongaの皆さん、そして会場で声をかけて下さった皆さんに心よりお礼申し上げます。今回は花火の一瞬の輝きと残像をイメージし、皆さんの心の片隅に残る味わいのある選曲を目指します。いつも通り後半にタンゴヌエボを１タンダ入れる予定です。楽しんでいただければ嬉しいです」。参加者数が多かったにも関わらず、中盤にかけて大部分の人がフロアで踊っている様子は圧巻でした。また、前回に引き続き、今回も写真の撮影を失念してしまいました。申し訳ありません（参加された花輪ジローさんのブログに当日の会場風景が掲載されています）。次回の最終回こそ、しっかりと記念に残るよう、忘れずに撮影したいと思います。

　次回のTokyo Milongaは９月２８日（水）です。いよいよ最終回となります。選曲はmilonguera tomokoさん、サニーさん、Shino BさんのレギュラーＤＪ３人が共演するコラボレーション企画でお届けします。会場は中目黒ＧＴプラザホール。多くの皆さんのお越しをお待ちしております。

　厳しい残暑の中、多くの皆さんにお越しいただき有難うございました。時々２曲ほど踊りながら次のタンダを選ぶというきわどい作業でしたが、フロアの状況を肌で感じながらの選曲はスリル満点でした。最近ちょっとこだわっているカナロのヨーロッパ風ワルツは、馴染みのない方もおられたようですが、タンゴのルーツを考える、という意味での一つの提案でした。９月２８日の最後のTokyo MilongaもレギュラーＤＪの一員として選曲に参加します。皆さんと再びお会いできることを楽しみにしています。

Report: 54th Tokyo Milonga

The 54th Tokyo Milonga took place on Friday, September 16 at Nakameguro GT Hall, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. The weather was cloudy when the milonga started and it rained shortly after 21:30. The hall filled up quickly after the doors opened. We counted over 40 dancers around 19:00, with a steady stream of people coming in thereafter. Attendance totaled 47 men and 52 women for a total of 99 dancers (47.5% men). Total attendance to date is 4,205, with an average of 77.9 per milonga (49.1% men). Average attendance for the last five milongas is 90.4.

Shino B was the DJ. Her message: “September 16 was my last solo gig at Tokyo Milonga. I would like to thank the Tokyo Milonga organizer for giving a Kiwi DJ the opportunity to work at such a big milonga. Also, a huge thank you to the Tokyo Milonga team for their friendship and support, and to everyone who came to say hello at the milongas. My goal for the 16th was to play quality music with a bright spark that leaves a lingering impression, like fireworks. As usual I included a tango nuevo tanda in the second half. I hope you all had fun!” 

Sorry we don’t have any photos from the 54th Tokyo Milonga. Almost everyone in the room was dancing about halfway through the evening―an awesome sight. We’ll be sure to take photos on the 28th as a record of our final milonga.

The final Tokyo Milonga will be held on Wednesday, September 28 at our usual venue Nakameguro GT Hall. Our three regular DJs milonguera tomoko, Sonny, and Shino B will collaborate to bring you some unforgettable tango music. We look forward to seeing you!

A big thank you to everyone who came to the 54th Tokyo Milonga on such a hot evening. I was cutting it fine somewhat, dancing two or three songs in some tandas and rushing back to choose the next tanda, but it was exciting as a DJ to feel the energy of the dance floor. Some people commented on the two European-style valses in the Canaro vals tanda, which was just one way of exploring the origins of tango music. I confess that Amor y Primavera is a recent personal favorite.

I’ll be taking part in the regular DJ collaboration project for the last Tokyo Milonga. I look forward to seeing you all on the night.

震災復興プチミロンガ開催のご報告

　２０１１年９月５日（月）午後６時３０分から午後９時まで「震災復興プチミロンガ」を仙台中央音楽センター（仙台市）で開きました。会場はＪＲ仙台駅から徒歩５分の便利な場所で、地下Ａスタジオ（８２平方㍍）を借りしました。参加者数は男性１０人、女性９人の計１９人。週始めの月曜日に加えて、１週間前の開催決定という悪条件の中、予想を上回る多くの皆さんにお越し戴けました。遠くは岩手から新幹線に乗り、参加してくれた友人もいました。集客に尽力してくれたＫさん、感謝しています。

 

　開催の目的は、東日本大震災から半年を迎えるあたり、震災復興を願い、東北の中心地・仙台でミロンガを開きました。タンゴを愛する仙台の有志とTokyo Milongaが中心となって主催し、タンゴ未経験の人でも気楽に参加してもらえるように入場料は無料としました。当日はタンゴを踊ったことがない中南米からの留学生も参加し、参加者による即席のレッスンの後、自由に踊る楽しさを体験してもらいました。

　選曲はTokyo Milongaが担当しました。多様な参加者を想定し、変則的なタンダ（tanda）形式とし、タンゴは同じ楽団の４曲で１タンダとするのは通常のTokyo Milongaと同じですが、ワルツとミロンガは各２曲ずつを組み合わせて１タンダとしました。４曲ごとに「コルティナ（cortina）」というタンゴ以外の音楽を３０秒ほど流しました。タンダやコルティナは仙台の方々には馴染みの薄い仕組みかも知れませんが、この機会にその良さを知ってもらえたらと思い、取り入れました。また、後半に１タンダだけヌエボ系の音楽３曲を流す予定でしたが、１曲を再生し、あまりにも誰も踊らなかったため、急きょ２曲を残し、通常のタンゴに戻しました。

　開催を無事に終え、「楽しかった」という声を数多く頂戴しました。また、「震災後はじめてダンスシューズを履いた」という参加者もいました。日常生活に溶け込んだミロンガの楽しさを、東北の皆さんに少しでも感じてもらえたら主催者としてそれに勝る喜びはありません。未曾有の震災を乗り越え、力強く復興が進むとともに、東北の地でタンゴを楽しむ人がより増えることを願ってやみません。東北の皆さん、本当に有難うございました。

Report: Mini-Milonga to support earthquake relief in Sendai

A mini-milonga in support of earthquake relief took place at the Sendai Chuo Ongaku Center (five minutes’ walk from JR Sendai station) in downtown Sendai from 18:30?21:00 on Monday, September 5. We hired basement studio A (82m2) for the event. Nineteen dancers attended (10 men and nine women) despite the event being organized at only a week’s notice on a Monday. One friend hopped on the Shinkansen and came all the way from Iwate. We would like to thank K for helping to publicize the event.

Sendai tango lovers and Tokyo Milonga organized the event in aid of earthquake relief six months after the devastating Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11. We did not charge an entry fee so that anyone with an interest in tango (including total beginners) could take part. Foreign students from Latin America with no experience of tango attended the milonga. After a quick lesson from other participants, the students enjoyed the improvised dancing that is tango.

Tokyo Milonga provided the music. Although we kept to the Tokyo Milonga tanda format of four tangos by the same artist, we combined two valses and two milongas to form a tanda of four songs. We played a 30-second cortina between tandas. We thought Sendai dancers may not be familiar with tandas, but thought this would be a good opportunity for them to experience the advantages of playing tandas. We were going to play a three-song tango nuevo tanda, but since nobody danced the first song, so we went back to playing traditional tango. 

We received plenty of positive feedback after the event. Some dancers admitted that they had put their dance shoes on for the first time since the earthquake. As one of the organizers, there is nothing better than hearing from the people of Tohoku that they enjoyed a milonga that was part of everyday life. We hope that the Tohoku region will overcome this unprecedented disaster and make strong progress toward recovery, and that the number of tango lovers increases.
